Hi, I’m Liz - This is my story
My Weight Loss Journey: A Story of Transformation
For as long as I can remember, my relationship with food was complicated. I saw food as both a comfort and a struggle, a reward and a punishment. Over the years, bad habits, emotional eating, and a sedentary lifestyle took their toll on my body and confidence. I knew I needed a change, but I didn’t know where to start.
The Wake-Up Call
One day, I stepped on the scale and saw a number that shocked me. It wasn’t just about the weight—I felt sluggish, unmotivated, and trapped in a body that didn’t reflect the person I wanted to be. That moment was my turning point.
Starting Small
I knew that drastic changes wouldn’t last, so I focused on small, sustainable steps. I started by cutting out sugary drinks and processed snacks. I replaced them with water, herbal tea, and whole foods. Instead of jumping into an intense workout routine, I started walking for 15 minutes a day. Those small victories added up, and I slowly gained confidence.
The Challenges Along the Way
The journey wasn’t easy. There were days I felt discouraged, times I gave in to cravings, and moments I wanted to quit. But instead of beating myself up, I reminded myself why I started. I learned to forgive myself for setbacks and to keep moving forward. I also sought support from friends, family, and online communities that encouraged me to stay on track.
Discovering a Love for Movement
As I gained energy, I started trying different forms of exercise. I discovered a love for strength training and solo boxing, activities that made me feel strong and capable rather than punished. Exercise became something I looked forward to, rather than something I dreaded.
A New Relationship with Food
I stopped looking at food as the enemy and started viewing it as fuel. I learned about mindful eating, portion control, and the importance of balance. I no longer felt guilty for enjoying a treat because I knew I was nourishing my body with mostly whole, healthy foods.
Facing Cancer and The Role of Nutrition
Just as I was preparing to celebrate my accomplishment, my journey took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. The fight was daunting, but I knew that proper nutrition could play a critical role in my recovery. I focused on nutrient-dense foods to support my immune system, incorporating antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. Hydration also became an essential components of my healing process.
While battling the effects of chemotherapy, I worked closely with a nutritionist to ensure I was fueling my body appropriately. I learned to listen to my body’s needs, adjusting my diet to help manage side effects like fatigue and nausea. The power of food in my recovery journey was undeniable—it provided strength, boosted my resilience, and aided in my overall healing.
The Transformation—Inside and Out
As the months passed, I began to heal, but more importantly, I felt alive again. My confidence grew and I was overcoming cancer- the biggest challenge of my life! With the right support, nutrition, and mindset, I came out stronger on the other side. A big thank you to my family and my friends who stood by me, cheered me on and never gave up hope.
